    Target/Biomarker information

Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae (AP) causes fibrinous, exudative, hemorrhagic, necrotizing pleuropneumonia in all ages of pigs, leading to sudden death and great economic loss worldwide. Exotoxins termed Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae toxins (Apx) are one of the major virulence factors of AP that contribute to the pathogenesis of porcine pleuropneumonia. Apx toxins are produced in different serotypes of A. pleuropneumoniae. For instance, serotypes 1, 5, 9, and 11 generate ApxI and ApxII. Serotypes 2, 3, 4, 6, 8 and 15 produce ApxII and ApxIII. Serotypes 7,12, and 13 express only ApxII, while serotypes 10 and 14 produce only ApxI.
