    Target/Biomarker information

Feline Fetal Fibronectin (f-fFN) stands as an indispensable sentinel in the world of feline reproductive biology. This glycoprotein, uniquely situated within the amniotic fluid and placental tissues of pregnant cats, orchestrates the symphony of feline pregnancy. Structurally, f-fFN is part of the fibronectin family, a group of adhesive proteins renowned for their roles in cell adhesion and tissue organization. At the heart of its mission lies the role of a molecular adhesive. During pregnancy, f-fFN acts as the glue that binds developing feline fetuses securely to the uterine wall. This adhesion is not merely structural; it is the linchpin that ensures the stability of the maternal-fetal connection. Without the steadfast grip provided by f-fFN, developing kittens could be at risk of detachment from the uterine lining, potentially leading to a cascade of complications. Beyond its adhesive prowess, f-fFN takes center stage in immune regulation. Pregnancy in cats presents a unique challenge for the maternal immune system. It must tolerate the presence of semi-allogeneic fetuses—offspring that share some, but not all, genetic material with the mother. f-fFN actively contributes to immune tolerance, ensuring that the mother's immune system does not launch a hostile response against the developing kittens. This immunomodulatory function is pivotal for the success of feline pregnancies.
