    Target/Biomarker information

Feline Insulin, an intricate 51-amino acid peptide hormone, reigns supreme as the master conductor of glucose regulation in cats. Produced and secreted by the beta cells nestled within the feline pancreas, it orchestrates a symphony of metabolic processes that dictate how cats utilize glucose for energy and storage. At its core, Feline Insulin serves as the gatekeeper for cellular glucose uptake. Upon its release into circulation, it seeks out insulin receptors on the surfaces of target cells, notably those found in muscle and adipose tissue. This binding event sets in motion a finely tuned series of intracellular signaling pathways, culminating in the translocation of glucose transporters (GLUT4) to the cell membrane. These transporters serve as the molecular gateways that permit glucose entry into the cell, where it is either converted into energy through glycolysis or stored as glycogen for future use. The secretion of Feline Insulin is intricately linked to blood glucose levels. After a feline feast, when glucose levels surge, beta cells respond by releasing insulin, effectively facilitating the uptake of glucose into cells. This, in turn, leads to a decline in blood glucose levels, restoring metabolic equilibrium. Conversely, during fasting or heightened energy demand, Feline Insulin secretion diminishes, allowing stored glucose to be mobilized and released into circulation to maintain vital glucose homeostasis.
