    Target/Biomarker information

Feline AD-associated Neuronal Thread Protein (AD7c-NTP) stands as a pivotal character in the intricate narrative of feline neurodegeneration. Structurally akin to its human counterpart, AD7c-NTP is a neuronal protein intricately involved in the development of neurofibrillary tangles—a hallmark of cognitive dysfunction shared with Alzheimer's disease (AD). The journey of AD7c-NTP begins within the feline brain, where it participates in the complex choreography of neurofibrillary tangle formation. These tangles, characterized by their twisted filaments primarily composed of AD7c-NTP, are emblematic of cognitive dysfunction and memory impairment in cats. This phenomenon mirrors the neurofibrillary tangles seen in humans with AD, underscoring the evolutionary conservation of neurodegenerative processes. At a molecular level, the aggregation of AD7c-NTP and its association with other proteins give rise to the neurofibrillary tangles that disrupt the normal architecture and function of neurons. This disruption leads to neuronal degeneration and synapse loss, ultimately manifesting as the cognitive deficits observed in cats afflicted with feline cognitive dysfunction syndrome (FCDS).
