    Target/Biomarker information

Canine Adiponectin, an intricate protein hormone comprised of 244 amino acids, stands as a sentinel of metabolic health in dogs. It is predominantly synthesized and secreted by adipocytes (fat cells) but also exerts its influence in various other tissues throughout the canine body. Canine Adiponectin exists in different molecular forms, including high molecular weight (HMW), medium molecular weight (MMW), and low molecular weight (LMW) forms. These distinct forms of Adiponectin wield varying degrees of metabolic influence. The high molecular weight form, considered the most metabolically beneficial, takes center stage with its ability to enhance insulin sensitivity and quell inflammation. The functions of Canine Adiponectin are manifold and intricately interwoven with metabolic processes. One of its pivotal roles is the enhancement of insulin sensitivity. Adiponectin facilitates the uptake of glucose into cells, enabling efficient glucose metabolism. It also exerts its influence on the liver, inhibiting excessive glucose production, which contributes to the maintenance of stable blood glucose levels. Additionally, Adiponectin showcases its anti-inflammatory prowess by reducing the production of pro-inflammatory molecules in various tissues. It plays a pivotal role in lipid metabolism as well, promoting the breakdown of fatty acids and inhibiting their storage within adipose tissue.
