    Target/Biomarker information

Bovine/Cattle Neutrophil Gelatinase-Associated Lipocalin (NGAL) emerges as an indispensable biomarker, offering profound insights into the intricate tapestry of bovine health and disease. Structurally, NGAL belongs to the esteemed lipocalin protein family, distinguished by its capacity to bind and transport hydrophobic molecules. Within the bovine organism, NGAL's origin is multifaceted, emanating predominantly from neutrophils, the vanguard of the bovine immune system, and renal tubular cells. Neutrophils, the frontline defenders in the bovine immune system, harbor NGAL within specific granules within these white blood cells. This strategic localization facilitates the rapid deployment of NGAL upon neutrophil activation, ensuring a swift response to cellular stressors and infections. Furthermore, NGAL is expressed by renal tubular cells, significantly amplifying its significance. Confronted with various stimuli, including inflammation, oxidative stress, or nephrotoxic insults, renal tubular cells release NGAL into the urine. This dual origin, originating from both neutrophils and renal tubular cells, renders NGAL readily detectable in both blood and urine, elevating its utility as a versatile biomarker.
